In the News / Celebrity Astrology Mel Gibson - 31 July 06 3 January 1956 4.45pm Catskill, New York
PRESENT INFLUENCES: Input July 31 06: Mel Gibson’s arrest for drink driving in Malibu on July 28th and the furore following about his alleged anti-Semitic remarks occurred as Saturn was exactly opposed his 8th house Venus. This makes him feel unloved, unpopular and separated from the support of those close, with some disadvantageous financial effects as well. Pluto was also exactly in square to both the Midheaven and IC on this chart over his arrest suggesting this birth time is accurate. Pluto on the midheaven brings reputation crashing down and affects the whole foundation of his life. Since Venus is joined in a T square to Pluto as well as Mars and Saturn, this gritty phase is likely to continue on until Saturn clears the conjunction to Pluto and square to Saturn in early September 2007. Saturn square Mars in late October 06, January and July 07 is also likely to be accident prone, argumentative, frustrating and will bring setbacks. He is now at his lowest ebb career-wise and psychologically with Saturn in his first quadrant just entering his 2nd house. This will bring financial shortages, but more importantly for someone of his wealth, will also for the next couple of years bring to the surface all manner of psycholgical and emotional issues from childhood which are unresolved and have to be faced. The effects of his overly rigid and perhaps even brutal childhood will need to be coped with and hopefully resolved though it will be a rocky ride. His marriage looks to be cooler, less supportive, from late September 06 till June 2007 as Saturn squares his Sun/Moon midpoint, which will also pull down his public popularity. 2006 is argumentative, highly strung and prone to misjudgements on his midpoint transits as Uranus suares Moon/Pluto (14 Virgo) and Mercury/Neptune (14 Sag) as well as the argumentative Pluto conjunct Mercury/Mars (26 Sag) which will run through till the end of 2007. Into 2007 also Uranus will square Sun/Mars as well as Pluto squaring Mars/Uranus – both of which can bring violent interventions, compulsive behviour and sudden challenges or accidents. By September 2007 Saturn will conjunct Jupiter which also hints at financial cutbacks and will put a damper on his enthusiasm in general. 2008 looks to be pressured and will bring jolting changes. In addition Neptune is transitting his 8th which is disorientating, undermining joint agreements in marriage and financially as well as bringing psychological strain. Uranus in the 9th is outspoken, though accident prone on travel and as it reaches his midheaven in 2009 will bring a major career changes. For interest on his progressions: His secondary progressed Moon was conjunct Uranus when his arrest happened bringing emotional shocks and outbursts and his tertiary progressed Mars was conjunct Neptune bringing a sense of failure and panic. Later this year his tertiary progressed Sun will conjunct his afflicted Mars in Scorpio in December bringing frutration, anger and setbacks, and continue onto to square Pluto in May and conjunct Saturn in June 07 which will make him feel stuck and empahsise his sense of himself as being an outsider. All of these will demand extreme toughness of mind and endurance not easy for an alcoholic. Birth Chart: On this birth time, he has a sixth house Capricorn Sun so is hard working, conscientious, practical, conventional and ambitious. The Moon at odds with his Sun will make him never pleased with what he has. His head and heart want entirely different things. He’d see his parents as essentially different personalities, almost incompatible. The Libra Moon in the 4th will have made him determined to set up an elegant adult home life for himself, secure and emotionally contented. But the real driving force of his chart comes from the Venus in Aquarius opposition to Pluto ( and Jupiter) squaring onto Mars Saturn in Scorpio in the fifth house which rules the entertainment business. Mars in Scorpio on the point of a T square makes him self-willed, headstrong, with a dogged single minded persistence to achieve his aims. He bulldozes obstacles out of his way with a relentlessness that overwhelms weaker personalities. Scorpio’s potent intensity gives him an all or nothing approach with a tendency to harbour grudges and carry resentments long after the event. This trait is exacerbated by the conjunction of Mars to Saturn in Scorpio, which latter is also unable to forgive hurts and tends to have an almost fanatical adherence to principle. His attraction to brutality, violence and sadism, well exemplified in his choice of film roles and his latest movie, “The Passion”, stems from this Mars Saturn square Pluto, perhaps also his escape into alcohol in the 1980s. His strict upbringing by an extreme fundamentalist Catholic, anti-Semitic father resulted in formidable endurance and resourcefulness, but also left behind a toxic amount of buried, over controlled anger and deep resentment. His fourth house Moon gives an affection for the father as does the Jupiter trine Sun, but the addition of Mars Saturn Pluto would point to an extreme ambivalence about a parent whose actions created feelings of frustration and persecution, perhaps as yet unacknowledged by him. He has turned his background to good use as a huge money spinner by not becoming violent himself which could have been a real possibility. He has channeled his anger in non violent ways into albeit violent movies. It is interesting given his complex relationship to his father that he has chosen in his two non-mainstream films to go for Hamlet and The Passion. The first is Shakespeare’s epic psychological study of a man haunted by his father’s ghost, driven mad by his mental anguish. The second, stripped of its religious overtones, is a gory rendition of the flagellation, torture and finally crucifixion of a man sacrificed by his father. The suffering is turned into a passion, justified by a greater cause, to make it palatable. Present Influences: Input 2004 His progressed Sun moved into Pisces over the making of The Passion, an intriguing coincidence since the two fish Pisces symbol was the sign of the early Jesus cult, and the Age of Pisces began two millenia ago with the birth of Christianity. His progressed Sun has just moved along with Uranus, the torch bearer, into the 9th, the house of religious beliefs, higher knowledge and spreading the word. Uranus here can suggest holding extreme or way out views, not caring who it startles or shocks. On a more mundane level Saturn is about to oppose his Sun in late June 2004, which can be a dampening influence, suggesting separations from a father figure, perhaps in the months following. On this birth time Saturn is also about to disappear across his ascendant in the first quadrant, which will herald a lower profile phase in his career of some years. He will turn inward, be more attuned to personal matters, may have to face old unresolved psychological issues from the past. Neptune recently moved into his 8th for some years ahead which will bring a slow, subtle transformation to his life and values. Neptune can be spiritual and this is the house of joint and business finances so would fit with a religious money making movie and also his investment in building a new church. Though it can also point to the risks of being swindled by dishonest business associates.
