Bill Gates logging out From: Marjorie. (27 Jun 2008 20:31): Bill Gates steps down as head of Microsoft today to spend more time with his charitable foundation. He''s an iconic figure credited with having done more to change our lifestyle over the past two decades than anyone else. 90% of all pcs sold now have Microsoft software on them - which has provided access to the net for an awesome number of people. He''s also regularly figured at the top of the world richest list.
What''s extraordinary about his chart are six planets in the 4th house which is family-oriented, self protective, though it''s by no means a barrier to great success in the world since Rupert Murdoch and Prince Charles amongst others have the same. It also suggest great pride in his family lineage and despite his reputation as the ultimate geek he does come from a wealthy family with banking interests.
Gates is a secretive, determined Scorpio Sun with Venus and Saturn also in Scorpio - perhaps a hint of why he went against the free-sharing grain of the original net community, insisting on protecting his software at all costs and running into charges of monopoly. His Sun Neptune conjunction is square a first house Uranus which is hardly surprising given that Uranus rules IT. Uranus Neptune can bring flashes of inspiration and is sometimes associated with those with a scientific bent. Uranus also trines the ambitious Aries midheaven conjunct Aries Moon with his 10th house Moon being a singleton planet in the upper chart giving it an uncompromising focus on ambition especially in relation to a career which is oriented towards the public. Aries always wants to be number one! And with his Moon in opposition to Mars he does have a temper, not being backward about voicing his criticisms either at home or at work when he is displeased.
With a flamboyantly confident Jupiter Pluto conjunction in Leo in the 2nd he was always destined to make money and squaring onto Saturn he''d do it with grim determination.
There''s always that perplexing question of what marks Gates'' chart out from the run of the mill successful businessman. There''s probably no answer to that except his Sagittarian Moon''s North Node (what connects him to the zeitgeist) is exceptionally well tied into his midpoints. It is trine that powerful wealth-creating Jupiter and Pluto, and sesquiquadrate Uranus, the latter not being the easiest of aspects suggesting a good deal of difficulty; but the NNode is also opposition Jupiter/MC and Pluto/MC, as well as being square a powerful group of conjunct midpoints - Sun/Uranus, Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto. So a mix of the right interests at the right time plus enough determination to create his own luck (Mars/Jupiter) and a degree of ruthlessness in overcoming opposition (Mars/Pluto) worked its magic.
He started Microsoft when Saturn was just beginning a new cycle of his chart in the 1st house, not normally a hugely successful time, but one when he put his foot on a new ladder, having baled out of Harvard. When Saturn moved into his second quadrant (into the 4th) he launched MS-DOS which made him a major player in the industry and his upward climb continued through Saturn''s next three quadrants for the next 21 years. He''s been sliding slightly for the past few years as Saturn descended again into his first quadrant in 2004. This is usually when even high powered types start trying to wind down (or life forces them to) to find a better balanced lifestyle and he announced in 06 he''d stand down this year.
This year also his Secondary Progressed Sun is trine Pluto suggesting positive changes are underway in his life. He''ll have had an awkward slightly anguished time since he decided to step down from MSoft since he''s had his Secondary Progressed Moon for the past two years which is a time of swinging around trying to find new values.
CHART: An intense, secretive Scorpio with a Cancer ascendant, and a fiery, outspoken Aries Moon on his mid heaven, he is a volatile mix of water, fire and air signs. With no earth planets in his chart, he can be impractical, not well grounded in his body or the physical world, but for the same reason he has no sense of the kind of limits ordinary people put on their expectations or plans. The Sun close to Neptune makes him a creative dreamer.
Money is a driving force in his life with lucky Jupiter and powerful Pluto in his second house in flamboyant Leo. He has an ability to turn thoughts into things, can push aside social niceties to get what he wants, and is compulsive about staying in control of his finances. He spends in grand style, especially on his home and family. Like Prince Charles he has his Scorpio Sun conjunct Neptune in his fourth house along with Venus, so he needs a beautiful, private home preferably near water.
His interest in computers will stem from a strongly aspected Uranus, just above the horizon when he was born and in square to his Sun and Neptune. It does make co-operation difficult since he is a strong individualist who dislikes compromise. But its highly positive benefit is that is allows him to be able to think out of the mould. Not concerned with being one of the crowd, he is original, inventive and can follow through his hunches even when no one else agrees.
His Fire Grand Trine of Uranus, the Moon/Mid Heaven and the Moon’s Node in Sagittarius is the mark of the entrepreneur, who has the self confidence to follow his vision. The Moon opposing Mars makes for a rather heated atmosphere at home and in his family life. But it is also what drives him on. His mid heaven Moon suits him for a prominent career where he is catering for public needs. In Aries, it makes him extremely restless, noisy and prone to stirring up arguments just to keep everyone on their toes.
With a predominantly fixed chart – Sun, Venus & Saturn in Scorpio; Jupiter, Pluto & Uranus in Leo – he can be stubborn, but he also has extraordinary endurance. Once on track he rarely budges. The Aries Moon and Mars, Mercury & Neptune in Libra – cardinal signs - give him initiative, and ambition. What he lacks are mutable signs, which would make him more adaptable to other people’s needs and ideas.
He is still on a career high at the moment although once Saturn enters Cancer in 2003 he will be considering how much longer he wishes to be involved in a gruelling business. With Uranus opposing his 2nd house Jupiter Pluto conjunction in 2002 & 2003, his finances will go on a roller coaster ride. A major upheaval looks likely. Though with Jupiter around in Leo in 2003 he should find his good luck holds.
Then as Saturn goes below his ascendant in 2005 he should be ready to step back and take it more easily. If his obstinacy prevents him from listening to his deeper instincts, then fate will take a hand in pushing him into a less prominent position for some years thereafter. Saturn will put a damper on his bountiful cash flow in 2007.
