Colin Powell always manages to look like a nice guy though he clearly lacks the decisive streak necessary to resign when he feels his views are being compromised. In fact he''s got a fairly ego-centred, ambitious chart though without birth times is tricky to say how he manages to hide his pushy side. He has an Aries Sun on the point of a Cardinal T Square to a Jupiter Pluto opposition and that doesn''t lack forcefulness and self confidence. His Sun also trines fiery Mars in Sagittarius. Where his slightly dithery streak comes from is I suspect a wide Saturn in Pisces opposition Neptune which can be kind, creative, but is a worrier, a doubter and not very good at foot stamping confrontations.
The start of this decade over 9/11 shows up as extraordinarily stressed on his chart not surprisingly with his Solar Arc Pluto in a bleak opposition to his natal Saturn and Solar Arc Sun in a confusing square to his square Neptune.
This year he looks pretty exuberant and confident over the election and until late November 08 with Pluto conjunct Mars/Jupiter. But thereafter he looks hugely frustrated, impatient and held back with a great deal of confusion over the New Year.
There''s obvious affection and friendship between Powell and Obama on the composite (Venus Sun) with hints of a military connection (Sat Mars), so perhaps advising on foreign policy, though there''ll also be arguments (Uranus trine Mars) and a feeling of being rather tied to one another through bleak circumstances (Sat Pl). Powell''s Pluto Jupiter oppositions falls close to Obama''s Jupiter Saturn conjunction so Powell''s confidence and perhaps stature will help Obama live out his vision (Jup Sat). Though there''s an uncomfortable opposition from Powell''s Saturn to Obama''s 8th house Mars which could suggest arguments or real difficulties in pulling together - either because there''s a difference of view on money or because an accident of circumstance gets in the way of their co-operation. Their relationship is under highly confused influences in 2009 with tr Neptune conjunct the composite Saturn and then facing a disappointing undermining 2010/11 with tr Neptune trine the composite Mars.

2004 will be a highly insecure year for him with Uranus square Mars through early April, August and again in January/February 2005. It tends to bring insecurity, bad judgement calls, jarring events which will shake his nerve. Then from late June 2004 Saturn will start aspecting his Cardinal T square, starting with a sobering square to his Sun, then oppose Jupiter in September, conjunct Pluto in October and square Mercury through October and November. It will be a deflating, discouraging time for him.
POWELL PERSONALITY:
There is no birth time so the axis of the chart is missing. However he is an Aries, with his Sun and Mercury on the point of a T square to Jupiter and Pluto, so well designed to be a military leader. These aspects make him go ahead, competitive, pushy when needed, more ego centric than his soft manner implies. The Sun is also trine exuberant Mars in Sagittarius making him a crusading force of considerable energy when he feels he has a cause to promote. His Moon is probably in early Aquarius (though could be in late Capricorn), in either case squaring onto Venus in Taurus, which will be partly where his charm comes from. Venus in Taurus gives him a harmonious voice, steady affections and a need for physical closeness. Though with Uranus close to Venus, he also restless and at times insecure emotionally. His Achilles heel is indecisiveness, stemming from a Saturn Neptune opposition squaring onto a Sagittarius North Node. In an artist’s chart, this is a very creative aspect, but can give rise to paranoia, neurotic worrying, and is in complete contrast to his gung ho Sun, Jupiter, Pluto T square. With Mars square Neptune, he likes the buzz of publicity and the show business feel of politics, but is at times undercut by confusion, muddle, self deceit, and an imagination which goes into overdrive when under stress.

The key factor in this relationship chart is a close Sun, Saturn, Uranus conjunction. Saturn makes it a good business partnership, though cool at an emotional level. But the combination, while useful for short periods of great challenge, is basically unstable. There is tension and conflict, a real divergence of views between the two men, which at some point will blow up into a destructive argument, surprising everyone around. 2004 will be a tense, aggravated year for their relationship with major challenges in March/April and across the New Year into 2005. There will be a few lucky breaks when Uranus is conjunct the composite Jupiter from late April to late July. But the end of August will bring a major setback.

A difficult composite chart suggests a relationship riddled with insecurities, ego conflict, doubt, suspicion and dislike. The composite Sun squaring Mars and Neptune hints at one upmanship, a tendency for each to undermine the other. Saturn in opposition to Mars and Neptune squaring the Sun puts a block on co-operation, promotes an atmosphere of deceit and will bring simmering resentments explosively out into open discussion. More and more of this may be emerging into the open in 2004 as Uranus squares the composite Sun Venus conjunction across late October and November 2004. Before then Saturn will conjunct Pluto in mid September making both of them feel blocked.

A marginally easier relationship this with a friendly Venus, Sun, Jupiter conjunction, though Neptune opposing and squaring onto Mars do produce stresses and strains if one gets more publicity than the other. There is a delusion in built into this pairing, which will give rise to disappointment along the way. Either an idealisation on one side or downright deception. Pluto is squaring the composite Neptune in 2004 which is highly disorientating, confusing and brings uncertainty to any joint effort. It will be exact through March and April, and December 2004. Also in December Saturn conjuncts the composite Pluto which will make for gloom and despondency.
