Heath Ledger was a hugely talented actor, beset by depression and anxiety, with a heroin problem, who died on January 22 in New York at 3.26 pm of a suspected drug overdose, though it's not known whether this was accidental. He seems to have been spinning into a downward spiral over recent months, becoming reclusive, looking like a dosser, and splitting from his girl friend, mother of his baby daughter. Born on 4th April 1979 in Perth, Australia (no birth time) he was an Aries Sun opposition Pluto which would always have made him feel trapped, not entirely in control of his life. Aries in hard aspect to Pluto seems to produce fairly anguished actors. Heath Ledger was often mentioned as a budding Marlon Brando. Brando was also an Aries with a New Moon square Pluto. Anthony Perkins, star of 'Psycho' was an Aries square Pluto; Dirk Bogarde, star of 'Death in Venice', was as well. Russell Crowe, the Australian actor, is also an Aries though without the hard Sun Pluto aspects.
Heath Ledger had a sensitive, self protective water grand trine of Mars, Mercury in Pisces trine Uranus in Scorpio trine Jupiter in Cancer which would have helped his creative talents, made him a healing source for others but wrapped him up in a dream world into which he would let few enter. His also had a close Saturn in Virgo opposition Venus in Pisces which would have made him feel unloved and unloveable no matter how much fan adulation he received and with three planets in Pisces he would find it difficult to let emotional hurts go. He was in the middle of his Saturn return when he died, always a stressful time, and transitting Saturn was opposition Venus exactly. The Saturn return is usually described as the first real maturing transit of life occurring around 29 years of age and it was clearly a hurdle he couldn't overcome. Uranus was also approaching an opposition to his Moon's North Node in Virgo in mid February. Uranus transitting the Node is always a challenge about letting old attitudes go which in the case of a Virgo NNode is about having been too dependent on others and allowing sorrows to drain his strength. Since his Node squares Neptune natally, it was the Neptunian influence (= drug and other escapist addictions) which distracted him from the central theme of his life and tragically sent him off his path.
